What is 5083 Aluminum Sheet?
5083 aluminum sheet belongs to aluminum-magnesium alloy, containing 5.2% magnesium, 0.1% manganese and 0.1% chromium, and like most aluminum alloys, it has low density and good thermal conductivity. 5083 aluminum sheet is also a non-heat treated aluminum alloy plate, which has one of the highest strengths and good ductility in the tempered condition. It is usually hardened by cold working and is not recommended for use at temperatures above 65°C. Aluminum sheet 5083 is more resistant to corrosion than aluminum sheet 5052 and is therefore commonly used in the marine industry.
Most of the common tempered states of 5083 aluminum sheet are 5083-0 5083-H111 5083-H112 5083-H116 and 5083-H321. 5083-H321 and 5083-H116 have stronger corrosion resistance than other tempered states of 5083 aluminum sheet because of their rust resistance and strong corrosion resistance, and thus are widely used in marine manufacturing industry, especially in the manufacture of ships.
5083 aluminum sheet is also used in other fields, such as automobile bodies, aircraft fuel tanks, pressure vessels, drilling rigs, TV/communication towers, oil storage tanks, etc. It can also be produced as extruded seamless pipes and other extrusions and forgings.

What is the difference between the various annealing states of 5083？
- O temper: also known as annealed or soft temper, refers to the condition of the aluminum plate without any cold working or heat treatment. This temper state has relatively high ductility and toughness, but low strength.
- H111 temper: refers to the aluminum plate that has undergone slight cold deformation through the cooling process, followed by natural aging treatment. This temper state has high strength and good formability, suitable for processing and forming.
- H112 temper: refers to the aluminum plate that has undergone cold working and has undergone slight springback deformation during annealing, followed by natural aging treatment. This temper state has higher strength than O temper, but slightly lower plasticity and ductility.
- H116 temper: refers to the aluminum plate that has undergone cold working and artificial aging treatment at a relatively high temperature. This temper state has high strength and good corrosion resistance, suitable for marine and other harsh environments.
- H321 temper: refers to the aluminum plate that has undergone cold working and stabilization treatment at a relatively high temperature. This temper state has high strength and excellent corrosion resistance, suitable for shipbuilding and marine engineering.
There are some differences in the application fields for different temper conditions of 5083 aluminum plates:
- O temper condition 5083 aluminum plates are usually used in applications that require high ductility and toughness, such as manufacturing aircraft shells, automobile bodies, and tanks.
- H111 temper condition 5083 aluminum plates are usually used in applications that require good processing performance and high strength, such as shipbuilding, building decoration, railway vehicles, and automobile manufacturing.
- H112 temper condition 5083 aluminum plates are usually used in applications that require high strength and corrosion resistance, such as marine engineering, oil tanks, and chemical equipment.
- H116 temper condition 5083 aluminum plates are usually used in applications that require high corrosion resistance and strength, such as ship decks, storage tanks, marine equipment, and coastal building.
- H321 temper condition 5083 aluminum plates are usually used in applications that require excellent corrosion resistance performance in seawater or salt-containing environment, such as ship decks, ship bodies, and ocean platforms.
